Red Horses
Red Horses is a product of Sparrow Night — a weekly workshop held by Oleh and his friends in the kitchen of their Crown Heights apartment, where they motivated each other to make art on a regular basis. Each Sunday over several months, Oleh brought in a brand new song to be critiqued by his roommates, friends, and other local artists.
Oleh recorded Red Horses in his bedroom with a 10-year-old USB microphone and a laptop — mixing, mastering, and producing the album along the way. One day, Oleh played the album to his friend Jared van Fleet (Beirut, Voxtrot, Sparrow House), who had the idea of layering in a soft cushion of piano, bass, and percussion.
Red Horses is an album of seduction, alienation, and loss of innocence. While not a concept album, it employs a cast of characters and makes frequent allusions to theater, fortune-telling, and 90s pop culture.
